This year marks 20 years of business for Equi-Analytical, a subsidiary of Dairy One. This team focuses on the analysis of horse feed for building a proper diet. Over the years, the group has helped owners, nutritionists, and trainers with many specialty needs for all types of horses from performance equines to easy keepers. As the group continues to provide services for the horse industry, there are a lot of fun things coming up before the end of the year.
Expanding Reach of Analytical Services
Earlier this year, Equi-Analytical announced it had partnered with Feed Central, based in Australia. With this partnership, horse owners based in Australia will be able to send samples to Feed Central for analysis. For this announcement, team members from Equi-Analytical participated in a live webinar for the launch. There was also a podcast recorded to discuss the benefits of hay analysis, how to collect a sample, and what to do with the results.
International customers outside of Australia continue to send samples to Equi-Analytical for analysis. Many hay brokers use the lab to certify the nutrient makeup of their hay. They need this information to help with successful sales. Although it’s easy to look at hay, there isn’t a way to determine its nutrient levels without testing it. A nutritional content result report from Equi-Analytical gives sellers and buyers the reassurance that the hay will be good for the horses.
Participating in Podcasts
Equi-Analytical’s team has been participating in many podcasts this year to help educate new and current customers about its services. At the beginning of the year, The Humble Hoof hosted a team member to talk about the basics of collecting a hay sample. While many people pull handfuls of hay to be sampled, it’s better to use a hay probe to collect a fully representative sample. People can source a hay probe from a local extension office, veterinarian, or farrier. Agricultural Consulting Services, another subsidiary of Dairy One, has also started to collect hay samples upon customer request.
Later in the year, the Scoop & Scale podcast invited Equi-Analytical to speak about different analytical packages available from the lab. While some customers may be looking to get an accurate level of minerals in feed, others might want to know the water-soluble carbohydrates in hay. Additionally, the lab offers livestock water and manure analysis, which can be helpful for narrowing in on a health issue in a horse.
Appearing at Industry Shows
Getting out to meet with customers is always a great time for the Equi-Analytical team. In July, the group attended the Lorenzo Driving Competition in Cazenovia, NY. During this event, they were asked to give a feed education seminar to attendees. Triple Crown Feed also invited Equi-Analytical to speak at one of their feed seminars for customers.
In November, Equi-Analytical will be attending Equine Affaire in West Springfield, Massachusetts. This is a large equine event with many seminars, trade show booths, demonstrations, and more. The team will have a booth in the Young Building at spot 1320, so make sure to stop by to say hello!
